Valerie Ackroyd is long time Education professional with over 30 years' experience in University settings advising students, managing staff, training and mentoring, and working with curriculum. Her knowledge of higher education, organizing, planning, public speaking and computer literacy are her strengths. She has worked and studied at Concordia University, Montreal; McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario; Portland State in Portland, OR (USA), and Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, BC.

With a BA, MS, and most of Ed.D. she majored in issues and challenges in postsecondary education. She has taught career workshops and worked with students on career planning. She has worked with curriculum projects, procedural changes, degree requirements, development work and funding, and personnel hiring. She has also done K-12 substitute teaching in New Mexico and Arizona for over 10 years.

She has previously provided Simon Fraser University's graduate programs and graduate students with guidance on interpreting and implementing graduate rules and regulations as well as advised Dean, Graduate Studies, on various student appeals. She has worked as Assistant and Associate Registrar at Oregon Institute of Technology and Oregon Health Science University and has profound knowledge of undergraduate course and degree requirements. Valerie has developed proposals, obtained funds, wrote training manuals and implemented student hiring program at McMaster University Bookstore. She established new college store at Humber College in 1994. She hired and trained both full-time and student employees in new procedures, customer service philosophy.
